Free Burma Rangers (FBR) has a long history of collaborating in this district, and was pleased to have the opportunity to partner with friends both old and new. This training was designed for both refreshing the skills of seasoned rangers in the region and to demonstrate to youth in the district the variety of skills that FBR relief trainings offer. Upon completion of this introductory training those individuals truly interested in being a Ranger can continue on to participate in FBR\u2019s annual complete leadership and ethnic unity training later this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">This new training class consisted of 22 students from a local post-ten program and 24 students from four individual townships in Mergui District.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60880\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 600px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.freeburmarangers.org\/2015\/05\/31\/free-burma-rangers-completes-introductory-leadership-and-relief-training-in-tavoy-district\/1-6\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-60880\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-60880\" title=\"Student Rangers practice rope climbing\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.freeburmarangers.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Student Rangers practice rope climbing<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The first day of training primarily involved a full overview of FBR\u2019s history. This included topical discussions concerning FBR\u2019s vision statement, mission statement, what FBR does and stands for mentally, physically and spiritually. The day included an in-depth look at what is expected of Rangers attending our full-course trainings, what the make-up of the relief teams are and their responsibilities to their villagers and to each other as they carry out missions.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60882\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 600px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.freeburmarangers.org\/2015\/05\/31\/free-burma-rangers-completes-introductory-leadership-and-relief-training-in-tavoy-district\/3-4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-60882\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-60882\" title=\"Ranger practices video skills\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.freeburmarangers.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/32.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Ranger practices video skills<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Basic first-aid\/medic sessions were woven into the daily lessons with at least one session every day throughout the training. Every morning commenced with our instructors leading the students in physical training exercises. We also instilled the value of maintaining one\u2019s resources with morning and evening chores, which were completed on a daily basis.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60884\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 600px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.freeburmarangers.org\/2015\/05\/31\/free-burma-rangers-completes-introductory-leadership-and-relief-training-in-tavoy-district\/2-4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-60884\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-60884\" title=\"Emergency evacuation training\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.freeburmarangers.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/22.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Emergency evacuation training<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Halfway through the training the students deviated from classroom time and spent the day hiking to two waterfalls within an hour from our training camp. Students spent the day learning to rappel and pull themselves over a water crossing on a rope bridge. O<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, 'Segoe UI';\">ne of the rappelling sites was a challenging climb down a slippery 70ft waterfall<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">. Every student successfully made the descent twice. Pride and confidence radiated on all their faces as they reflected on their personal accomplishment that day as we hiked back to camp that evening.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60876\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 600px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.freeburmarangers.org\/2015\/05\/31\/free-burma-rangers-completes-introductory-leadership-and-relief-training-in-tavoy-district\/4-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-60876\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-60876\" title=\"Ranger undergoes rope bridge training\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.freeburmarangers.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/41.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Ranger undergoes rope bridge training<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p lang=\"en-US\">B<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">esides the classes already mentioned our students also received instruction on the following subjects:<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Information Gathering and Reporting World War II and its Atrocities<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span>UN Declaration of Human Rights Human Rights Abuses<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span>Critical Thinking Exercises Leadership &amp; Ethnic Unity<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span>Relief Mission Planning Operation Order\/Warning Order<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span>Operation Order Practical Exercise Development Projects versus Land Rights<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span>Social Media SALUTE &amp; Reconnaissance <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span>UN Doctrine-Free Prior &amp; Informed Consent of Indigenous Land Rights (FPIC)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span>Good Life Club (Sharing Help, Hope and Love with the Children)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The training concluded on the morning of 12 April with one of our most senior rangers leading a GLC program combined with Sunday church services, followed by a brief graduation ceremony and photos. The enthusiasm of students during this training was infectious and inspired everyone, staff and instructors included.
